Reality doesn’t always look like a very nice thing. For that reason, a lot of people choose to escape from it. Any means is welcomed with open arms, open minds and open mouths just to attain a state of pure indifference to it. Even drug addiction.

LSD or Lysergic Acid Diethylamide is a drug that’s considered a club drug. It has the ability of transferring a person into a state of imagined reality that looks far better than the actual thing. Usually ingested by mouth, LSD exists in either tablet, capsule or liquid form. It’s also common to chew or swallow the drug when its on a piece of blotter paper, making users feel secured from the dangers of being criminally charged due to possession of paraphernalia.

Though LSD does not normally trigger physical dependence, psychological addiction to it is almost always the case with people who start to use it. With its psychedelic side-effects, it doesn’t take long to understand why. But, tripping on LSD is a matter of having the proper mindset before the drug is used. Good mood gets amplified once the high is attained. In the same way, if the drug is used while under depression, the sadness and misery become too much to bear when the rewards from the drug are reaped.

Bad trips refer to effects of LSD that are not very desirable. Among all psychedelic drugs, LSD has the most potential of delivering bad trips. During these difficult periods, suppressed painful memories may be revisited again, rendering the user traumatized and terrified. A classic nightmare, they can be. The only difference is that a nightmare can be dispelled upon waking up. In a bad trip, the length of the high must wear off before the person can fully grasp his/her return to reality.

Delusions are also normal when tripping on LSD. A user may get a sense of being powerful beyond means that he/she may engage in activities that can get life-threatening. Behavior that’s not commendable may also develop, putting an individual in a state of danger that’s harmful on so many levels. What makes this even more alarming is that the person will not be aware of the destruction he/she may begin because consciousness and awareness do not exist.

Obviously, resorting to LSD to escape from the annoying features of reality is not the best decision a person can make. Drug addiction must never be an option, period. It’s the only thing that can make the not-so-friendly reality look actually better, once the harsh effects manifest.

Drug addiction has always been connected to the abuse of substances like heroin, cocaine, marijuana and others. Not many even know that swallowing prescription medicines is also considered drug addiction. People have always thought that the phrase only refers to illicit materials that mean years in jail or expensive fines. But, like so many things on this planet, drug addiction has started to include those which used to be purely utilitarian and totally wholesome.

Inhalant drug abuse refers to the improper ingestion of seemingly innocent chemicals called inhalants and poppers for the purposes of getting highs that come from huffing or bagging. Inhalants are products that are most commonly found in households. Right now, they’re also part of the parameters of substance abuse. Things that no one sees as dangerous or debilitating like glue, paint thinner, aerosol sprays, felt-tip markers and others are becoming new sources of addiction. Poppers, on the other hand, refer to substances that are chemically produced to deliver mind-altering rewards. Huffing is the process of inhaling a chemical straight from the container, bagging involves putting the product in a paper bag so it can be inhaled.

Though the idea of sniffing nail polish remover is almost funny, there’s nothing to be laughed at in the case of dangers that come from this type of abuse. Huffing and bagging can cause loss of coordination which can lead a person to go slipping and sliding in places where doing so would prove hazardous. Confusion also characterizes inhalant abuse. That being said, the ability to make decisions that one won’t regret later may be lost. That would put the person in severe danger when good judgment becomes a necessity for survival. Other adverse outcomes from getting too close to solvents and butane lighter fluids include rashes around the nose or mouth area, nosebleeds, dizziness and fainting, coughing fits, blindness, heart palpitations, hallucinations and paranoia. To think that all of those can come from being mesmerized with typewriter correction fluids and air conditioning coolants is certainly not a nice thought.

Another serious complication from inhalant drug abuse is the condition known as Sudden Sniffing Death. The heart gets too affected with the effects of the inhalants that it can beat erratically and unevenly to the point of cardiac arrest. Even first-time sniffers have been documented to die from this dreaded condition.

There are things that exist that should be simply left alone. They were invented to fulfill safe functions that help make the lives of humans better and easier. Taking advantage of their accessibility and availability and using them for reasons that didn’t come with their manuals will only create disaster.

With a name that one, denotes healthy food that is an ingredient in a lot of nutritious soups and dishes and second is video games graphics that enable a user to grow taller and stronger, most people would really have trouble understanding why the medical world frowns down upon them. But, as the medical world is not likely to blatantly discredit anything just for the sheer heck of it, there really must be reasons for alarm.

“Psychedelic mushrooms” or “magic mushrooms” or “shrooms” are substances that have mind-altering capacities, as well as psychological influences. They have an active ingredient called psilocybin that acts as the catalyst for the generation of out-of-this-world (literally) trips. Some shrooms users even claim to have had contact with A Higher Being while high.

Shrooms are typically eaten raw or used to make tea. They are known to blur the dividing line between the conscious mind and the outside world. A feeling of happiness swoops down like magic on a person, too, resulting to light moods and carefree giggles. Rich visual hallucinations are also everywhere. Colors seem to ripple and sparkle. Things melt into each other. Other sensory perceptions get more exciting, too. Time can slow down or stand still. In short, consciousness and awareness is so expanded that it almost encompasses the whole universe.

Like all forms of psychedelic drug addiction, shrooms effects have a lot to do with set and setting. Set is a person’s state of mind. Setting is where a person is located. Also, shrooms are great mental amplifiers. Happiness before the ingestion gets magnified into bliss once high and sadness before the use intensifies into despair when tripping.

Well, for those who are thinking that shrooms actually sound a bit lovely and that they must not be so bad, after all have not gotten to the end of the story. Physical disturbances like stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea can arise (occupational hazards of ingesting fungi). Flashbacks from previous trips may also happen, and a person clutching his/her head in the middle of a busy intersection surely is not going to make a dear sight. If combined with the depressant alcohol, too, shrooms can set the way to ultimate danger – with the possible alcohol poisoning and the probable zoning out of this world.

When a person engages in drug addiction, the pleasure only comes in the beginning. The highs and the laugh trips will be experienced, but only temporarily. As time goes rolling on and as more lines go snorted, the unpleasant consequences of the action rears their ugly heads, as in the case of amphetamines abuse.

Amphetamines refer to a group of synthetically-produced stimulants that impact on a person’s central nervous system and boost activities in the brain. They also bear likeness to the natural chemical substance adrenaline, the hormone that mainly specializes in ‘fight or flight’ events.

Also known as Speed, Bennies, Crank, Black Beauties or Football, amphetamines have three different classes: amphetamine sulfate, dextroamphetamine and methamphetamines. They all work on a person’s central nervous system by increasing the levels of the neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine. Those two cater to the production of pleasant moods and happy feelings. Amphetamines addiction is achieved when a tolerance or a need for more of the drugs crop up as a result of the constant use.

Before, amphetamines were used to treat depression and congestion. They were also given to soldiers to help them stay awake longer.

But now, it’s common knowledge that the use of amphetamines, in the long run, is never good. It promotes physical as well as psychological addiction. Being a slave to the drugs entails issues and complications that are tough to handle and hard to overcome. Long-term effects of this kind of drug addiction appear in the form of blurred vision, increased heartbeat and dizziness. Lack of appetite is also going to manifest, headaches, restlessness and high blood pressure are also risks that have great chances of coming-to-life.

A lot of people associate good times with substance abuse – which is something that’s not altogether true. The happiness that pills and capsules deliver are only temporary and short-lived. When use turns to abuse and abuse revolves into addiction, a cycle of destructive power is going to start rotating. And the wheels of this damaging process will continually churn out events and happenings that are only good for wallowing in regret. But, thankfully, that doesn’t end there. The good news is there’s a lot of treatment options for people who are suffering from drug addiction of any kind. With these methods which are designed to help start recovery in a person, dealing with drugs need not be solitary. The destructive cycle, too, may just start going the other way.

If adapting to the environment is a must to enable somebody to keep swimming, then having the ability to recycle and reuse substances for other needed purposes is going to be helpful. The problem, now, is that being resourceful is not only applied to survival-of-the-fittest attempts. One such example is drug addiction from ketamine.

Ketamine is a drug that is primarily used for its medical uses. It’s employed by veterinarians in their practice as an anesthetic. Some human beings, though, have started to think that animals should not be the only ones benefiting from the drug. But as ketamine is ingested by some people for the wrong reasons, that’s certainly not the best idea.

Even if it does not promote physical dependence, it does trigger psychological addiction. The high that comes from ketamine magnifies the user’s emotions prior to getting the buzz. As a result, feeling happy before injecting the drug allows the person to ride on blissful waves when the high arrives. Consequently, being glum or sad before the ingestion is going to provide a state of misery so intensified that a nightmare would even look more pleasant.

However, regardless of your mood before using ketamine, long-term effects of the drug abuse are still troublesome, whether you are an optimist or not. Ketamine addiction can lead to a condition of “cloudiness”. In that state, a disconnection between the mind and the body occurs and causes ineffective functioning. Thought processes would also get murky and problematic and the person finds that deciding on what must be done and disregarding what must never be done would be quite hard. Also, respiratory depression and heart palpitations can also take place. Moreover, if ketamine is mixed with other substances like alcohol, the line between life and death further blurs.

Ketamine is a drug that’s proving itself effective if it’s used for the right reasons. And maybe, it’s one of those things that exist for exclusive purposes. Using it as a source of drug addiction will destroy its initial reason for existence. Like all other classic examples of such cases, doing so can’t possibly result to a good thing. If people continue to violate the very purpose of the drug, then complications that should not have happened in the first place are definitely going to appear.

Drug addiction is also a shared activity that many young people are unfortunately partaking in. they fall under the misconception that drugs are needed to have fun. But, in fact, the adverse effects of those drugs on them will turn out to be absolutely no fun, at all.

Ecstasy is among the most popular drugs that a lot of young people use and abuse. It’s a street name for the synthetic substance MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine), a chemical that acts both as a stimulant and a hallucinogenic. Usually taken y mouth in the form of pills, capsules or tablets, ecstasy is hailed by many party-goer for it provides stamina and energy, ingredients that are required to keep the lights shining and the beats pumping.

Temporary effects that a person can get from using ecstasy include: extreme confidence (a trait that’s useful if someone wants to meet new people), sense of well-being (a feelings that dictates that everything is right with the world), and feelings of affection (sweet emotions that enable one to be fond of everybody and be loving to one and all). However, the destructive consequences of ecstasy addiction are enough to make a person forget about the very momentary pleasant outcomes and make the same person wake up to the unlovable repercussions from this so-called “love drug”.

Anyone is definitely better off without the physical and psychological health conditions that too much candy-flipping can bring. Anxiety, nausea and chills are all probable. Teeth-grinding and jaw-clenching are also automatic actions that are none too favorable. Loss of appetite and lesser fluid intake will deplete the body of vital nutrients and vitamins that can’t mean progress in a person’s wellness.

Serious complications may arise, too. Convulsions, nausea with vomiting, hallucinations, paranoia, psychosis and manic or bizarre behavior all have great chances of developing. Permanent brain damage is another alarming could-be from this drug addiction. Needless to say, those things are examples that no one wishes to experience firsthand.

In the past, ecstasy was used for medical purposes. People back then thought that it’s great for suppressing appetites, among others. But the drug revealed how disturbing it really was so it got banned. In the present time, Ecstasy is still an illegal substance that no one would ever think of defending. Really, too, no one needs to ask why.

Some people can’t deal with dullness and boredom. When things seem so dry, risk, danger and excitement must be accessible. That is the reason why many individuals are endlessly pursuing activities that are a little scary. The adrenaline rush, after all, is a powerful thing. Now, it’s okay to occasionally stray away from the normal, routine humdrum of daily existence and do something that makes your heart race a little faster. But, engaging in drug addiction so you can spice existence up is risky. Dangerous and exciting ~ in all the wrong ways.

Methamphetamine (also known as meth, ice, speed, stove-top, crank and crystal) is a drug that mimics the effects of naturally-produced adrenaline. It’s a stimulant that accelerated activities in the brain that can result to a more alert mind, sharper vision, decreased appetite, increasingly vivid perceptions, and a boosted-up sense of excitement and pleasure. Meth can be injected, smoked, snorted or eaten.

Smoking meth can give a person a heightened sense of everything. Colors seem brighter, conversations are more engaging, ideas come easier, arousal is better – everything is more intense. A fake feeling of endless energy, power and happiness is achieved.

But those effects are short-lived. When the excitement wears off, life becomes duller than ever, once more. A crash from meth is in the form, of drowsiness so potent that a person can sleep for extended periods. But if meth use is habitual and consistent, a person will sleep considerably lesser than a meth newbie will. Upon waking up, though, a craving for more of the drug develops. Tweaking, a lengthy period of drug use, then becomes as normal as brushing your teeth in the morning.

However, constant ingestion of the drug, as with any constant use of anything, results to bad news. Meth can harm a person’s physical and psychological well-being strongly. Meth mouth, for starters. It’s an advanced tooth problem that occurs from the dry mouth and teeth grinding that meth induces in a person. Poor oral hygiene, again from the use of methamphetamines, is also another factor. Meth babies are probable, too. Pregnant women who are still doing the drug passes on the detrimental effects of their action to the unsuspecting baby in the womb. Lastly, risks for HIV/AIDS and other types of sexually transmitted diseases are higher because a meth addict isn’t exactly the most health-conscious person in the world.

Drug addiction is not a good answer when life gets boring. It has the ability to get too exciting that it can turn suffocatingly enslaving. When that happens, the boredom of a regular life would seem like a better choice, surely.

Substance misuse is one such example. But, calling teenage drug abuse as unfitting is an understatement. With the detrimental effects drugs can wreak in teenagers, substance misuse among teenagers deserves more “fitting” adjectives.

Young people aged 12 to 19 are making their marks on statistics books concerning drug abuse. In the United States alone, more or less 3 000 teenagers experience their first cigarette smoke every day. And about one-third of them make smoking a habit. 27 % of teenagers admit to using drugs in the months before the survey. 13 % had used inhalants, 5 % had used club drugs and 3 % had used opiates. What’s more unfortunate is that those numbers are only the beginning.

Adult drug abusers are certainly being imitated by teenage drug abusers. Practically every kind of drug that a twenty-five year old uses is also being used by a high school second grader. Aside from alcohol, teenagers are also using: tobacco products (like cigarettes, cigars or chewing tobacco), cannabinoids (such as marijuana or hashish), cold medications, inhalants (gasoline and ammonia, for examples), depressants (which cover barbiturates and others), stimulants (which refer to methamphetamines, amphetamines or cocaine), narcotics (that include heroin, codeine or morphine), hallucinogens (that incorporate LSD or mushrooms), dissociative anesthetics (which point to PCP or ketamine), club drugs (that involve ecstasy) and anabolic steroids.

When teens start using pipes and rolls, they will not only set off bad decisions, they will also initiate a process of destruction. Alcoholism and other forms of substance abuse have more chances of developing later on in teenagers who abuse drugs. They’re more likely to engage in risky behaviors like unsafe sex – which can lead to sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies and a host of other medical and personal problems. Many teenagers would also employ drug use as a form of mask to hide psychological issues like depression or anxiety but it can intensify the emotional turmoil in a person, and that can result to suicide or violence. Lastly, every organ in teenagers’ bodies can get affected by every drug.

The world can offer its inhabitants a lot of activities that can help them deal with life better. Choosing those which can eventually destroy you, though, is only going to ruin your world, your being and your life.

When the needle tracks leave more than just the skin marks, the logical thing to do would be to stay away from the syringes and needles. Thanks to the contemporary developments in the world of substance misuse prevention, living heroin-free isn’t as hard as it used to be.

Heroin addiction treatments abound in the present times. They typically start with applying the use of medicines to assist with the tough detoxification process and lessen the severity and seriousness of the withdrawal symptoms. Then medicines are also administered to help prevent a possible relapse.

Methadone, for example, is one of the most popular medicines used to reduce the urge to go back to the high. One that has been used for more than 30 years, it combines with the heroin receptors in the brain. Because of that, the cravings for heroin and other types of opioids lessen. When ingested appropriately, methadone doesn’t turn out to be sedating or intoxicating. Also, the side effects from the drug usually don’t get in the way of normal daily functioning.

Buprenorphine is another drug used in heroin addiction treatments which is considered milder than methadone. It is less apt to provide withdrawal symptoms and chances for overdose. It does not promote physical dependence as much, as well. As a result, after the use of buprenorphine has been stopped, withdrawal symptoms do not manifest in the same way that they would if the drug in question is methadone.

Naltrexone is commonly recommended for outpatients. First use of the drug generally happens after a medical detox in a residential setting. Though it has been approved as a form of dealing with substance misuse, it has not commanded a great patient following. It doesn’t bind with the opioid receptors so the patient won’t be able to feel the effects of the drug. Also, a patient who has just finished medical detox needs to be free from opioid for a lot of days before using naltrexone.

Naloxone can block opioid receptors in the brain, though for a considerably shorter time. It is generally employed to treat overdose.

Behavioral heroin addiction treatments also exist. Individual or group counseling and cognitive-behavioral therapy are examples. Along with medications, these treatments have proved useful in enabling a person to live and function without the heroin, and to exist, as such, free.

Drug Treatment is a rigorous process that can cost thousands, the good thing about it is that it is effective. The life of a human being is far more precious than any amount of money. Individualised drug counselling is one example of a drug treatment. Drug treatment centres focus on stopping the addiction; they aim to fully stop the patient from using the drugs. Drug addiction impairs a person, affects their capacity to work efficiently, they also fail to have meaningful relationships with loved ones and peers, which is why getting a drug treatment is essential.

Seeking drug treatment can help the patient develop coping strategies to be able to resist drug use; it would also help the patient efficiently control the need to succumb to drug addiction. Individual drug counselling is usually taken one or two times per week.

Opium addicts appear to have a faster recovery when they take individual counselling, this makes the drug treatment process bearable, it gives the patient the inner strength to move on. Drug treatment can also include onsite psychiatric, employment, and family counselling. Individual and group counselling are performed in treatment centres; it is reported to have significant results in decreasing cocaine use and also heroin outpatients.

An inner motivation must come from the patient, a step-by-step process would be useless if the patient does not understand how important it is to be able to recover and face the world again. Motivational enhancement therapy is only one of the offered strategies to come out with this result. It starts with a battery session, and followed by two to four individual treatment sessions with a therapist. It provides feedback that is gathered from the first assessment to encourage the patient to discuss the patient in describing his experience using the substance, and motivate the patient to come out with self motivational statements and reflection. It is used to build a plan for change, to boost the willingness of the patient to get out of his/her situation. The therapist will monitor the changes, they will note whether the patient has been able to abstain from the drug. Sessions like this can include significant others, or important people in the patient’s life, this approach has been effective for alcohol and marijuana dependents.

Drug treatment involves giving the patient a sense of control; it aims to stop the unwanted behaviour from destroying the person.
