Drugs abuse is a serious problem that has been haunting the world for decades. It is negative in itself and provides larger problems for the society. People usually start drug use to escape from the feeling of an unfulfilling life. A sense of dissatisfaction prevails with many individuals nowadays. Material wealth as well as other religious institutions fail to provide them with happiness.
The family dynamics may be crumbling and people may feel alienated, detached from one another and with no source of help. This causes individuals to be depressed. Many people who have fallen into depression resort to drugs abuse. Teenagers who have no creative outlet have a higher tendency to resort to the use of recreational drugs like marijuana which eventually leads them to taking cocaine, meth, ecstasy and other forms of dangerous drugs.
Many are aware of the effects of drugs on the body, but this does not hinder them from availing or using drugs.
A deeper sense of awareness for life and stronger relationships and connection with people need to be established to combat this destructive habit.
Anything taken in excess is bound to destroy. It is said that the first step to combat drug addiction is to let the user know how it affects their present life. The addict usually thinks that only the drugs can help them get by. They use drugs to fill the void and the emptiness, but once they understand that the drugs abuse is the culprit of their loneliness and have become aware of the error, they can start doing something to break out.
Many addicts tend to assume an air of confidence, but the truth is that they may be scared inside–scared to face the world and all the realities and pressures. They have to understand that each and everyone would be experiencing bad things in life. It is how they use these circumstances and find the good in every situation. Drugs only give a temporary sense of importance and confidence and can lead to a lifetime of pain.
Drugs abuse needs to stop, otherwise this could be the reason of the devastation not only in the addict’s life but the life of people around them. The children of drug addicts suffer the most.
An abuser needs to understand that there is more to this life. They just have to find the will to live and get past their fears and learn to be strong.
The support of family and friends is vital, but they can only do so much if the person does not want to change. The need for a new perspective needs to be realized by the addict.
Self discipline coupled with counseling and medical treatments are part of the healing process. Going into detox rehabilitation centers would also help the addict. Medical professionals could assist in providing relief from withdrawal symptoms. Fellow recovering addicts can also provide support.
In parallel, information dissemination against the drugs needs to be strengthened. Schools and institutions needs to be one in finding a solution for this sickness. It is not enough to establish laws; we need to find ways on how to reach out to others in a deeper way to help them avoid the need for drugs abuse.
